Canada is in the grip of an overdose epidemic.
Between 2016 and 2023 around 35,000 Canadians died of a drug overdose - 80% of those by the misuse of the painkiller fentanyl.
Cheap, addictive and potent - when fentanyl is abused it can be fatal.
Since 2019, Canada has provided so-called 'safe supply' opioid alternatives like methadone to some addicts.
But Dr Christy's world first program goes further:
She fights Canada's overdose crisis by selling pharmaceutical grade fentanyl to drug users.
It's a regulated system backed with care and support.
But it's provoked high-level political resistance from Canada's conservative opposition who say there can not be a 'safe supply' of fentanyl. It's leader, Pierre Poilievre calls for tougher policing on the supply of the drug.
