Comedian Shane Daniel Byrne is eager to show people they can still be involved with the Irish language “even if you don’t have perfect Gaeilge”.
He is an ambassador for Seachtain na Gaeilge this year alongside fellow comedians Michael Fry and Julie Jay. He describes himself as the “learner” in the group.
Despite studying higher level Irish in his Leaving Cert and doing well in the exam, Mr Byrne says he still frustratingly found he had very little spoken Irish.
“In some ways, I wish I wasn’t [the learner]. I wish I was the great Gaeilgeoir speaker, but I’m not”, he said.
