Have you ever wondered what it would sound like to be inside a submarine as it slowly glided deep below the ocean's surface? What sounds would you hear? Would it be relaxing at all?
Last week, I took my son to visit the Ocelot submarine at Chatham Dockyard. It was fantastic. We got to go inside and experience what it would have been like to be a crew member. Although it is now decommissioned and housed on land, two things struck me. First, just how cramped it would have been, especially since it held quite a large crew. But secondly, how relaxing I found the hum of the engine. The way it bounced off the acoustics inside, mixed with the engine's pumping, was soothing. I could only imagine how much more relaxing it would have been with the sound of water outside or the vast void of the sea surrounding it.
To fill in the blanks, I turned to my trusty AI friend for suggestions. Here's what was said:
Inside a submarine, the noise would typically include:
*Water Flow: The sound of water rushing along the hull, particularly when the submarine is in motion. This might be a whooshing or rushing noise, reminding you of the vessel's movement through the water.
*Metal Creaking: As the submarine dives deeper, you might hear the hull creaking or groaning due to the increasing pressure.
*Hum of Machinery: A constant hum from the submarine's machinery, such as engines, generators, and other mechanical systems. This hum is usually a low, steady drone that permeates the environment.
*Pumps and Air Systems: Periodic hisses or gurgling sounds from the air systems, pumps, and ventilation systems working to maintain the submarine's environment.
*Deep Drone of the Ocean: A subtle, low-frequency drone from the surrounding ocean, reminding you of the vast, pressurized environment outside.
Using a combination of field recordings and home creations, I then edited and blended together, as best I could, the comforting and relaxing sound of Submarine Noise.
So if you're looking to be enveloped by a sleep sound, so soothing and tranquil you will be out for the count instantly. give this one a go!
Sleep long and sleep well!
