It’s a big week for Donald Trump and Ireland – on both sides of the Atlantic. The US president hosts Taoiseach Micheál Martin in the Oval Office today, while Donald Trump’s golf course in Doonbeg re-opens after being battered by Storm Éowyn.

The Trump name’s association with global controversy is seemingly not having an effect on business.

In the coming months, the golf links in west Clare will be lodging a planning application for a new ballroom to acc­ommodate the weddings and events that are being booked into the hotel. The ballroom will replace a marquee.

But Trump’s man in Ireland is not happy about the state of the roads in west Clare and is lobbying to get the transport links upgraded.
