Arab-American influencers in the US have been preparing themselves for TikTok’s potential ban in the country for weeks.
ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, has until January 19 to sell its US operations or face a ban over national security concerns and data privacy of its users and content creators.
For Arab American creators, TikTok has been a game-changer in terms of building up careers in a range of creative sectors they wouldn't have been exposed to.
And it’s a huge loss for content on Palestine. Those same creators have used TikTok to offer raw, heartfelt reactions to Gaza’s struggles in the past 15 months, educating audiences beyond traditional media narratives.
With January 19 approaching, the world is waiting to see if any compromise can be reached.
