The Syrian army has announced that opposition forces have entered Hama city following intense fighting, prompting its units to redeploy outside the strategic location—marking another significant setback for President Bashar al-Assad.
In a statement on Thursday, the army said it was repositioning its forces "to preserve civilian lives and prevent urban combat," reversing an earlier denial of rebel fighters entering the city.
Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar reports from north of the Syria-Turkey border, near Kilis. Joining the discussion from Durham is Robert Geist Pinfold, a Lecturer in Peace and Security at Durham University, UK.
