The Story Of 'Singapore's Taj Mahal': Magicians Who Revived The Mansion | Karikal Mahal - Part 2/3

Moona Kader Sultan’s workers are convicted of abetment to murder, and despite no concrete proof, witness accounts suggest Kader was the mastermind. Once respected, he becomes a pariah, and as financial ruin looms, his eldest son Yusoff succumbs to the crushing pressure, ultimately taking his own life. Declared bankrupt, Kader loses Karikal Mahal, auctioned off at a fraction of its worth. Kader returns to India, where he dies, the mansion having become his most costly mistake.

Karikal Mahal sits empty until it becomes the headquarters of the Malayan Magic Circle, a brotherhood of amateur magicians who bring the place to life with their tricks and performances. They win international awards and raise money for charity, but with war looming, it becomes difficult to sustain their headquarters. Their final show is held the night before the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor and invade Singapore and Malaya, ending their time at Karikal Mahal.
